Best AI Answering Service for Trades in 2026: The Checks That Matter

The best AI answering service for trades puts urgent calls through, books quote visits and runs from the van. A dated AI receptionist comparison for 2026.

TL;DR

  • For a trades business, the right AI answering service puts urgent callers through, books quote visits and quotes your own fees. No service we checked in October 2026 wins on everything.
  • Price the plan you'd buy: several keep booking or transfers for $99 to $149 plans.
  • On Jobber? Its $29 Receptionist add-on books into your schedule. Want a person behind the AI? Try Smith.ai or Ruby.
  • Juney is $49 a month with 150 minutes (as of October 2026), runs from your phone and can ring you first. Limits: calls only, Google Calendar only, English only, four countries, no human backup.

Trade calls are their own mix. One caller has water coming through the ceiling, the next wants a price before you've seen the job, and the third is a builder you've worked with for ten years. You're usually up a ladder for all three.

Which AI answering service (AI receptionist) is best for a trades business in 2026?

The best one handles the calls that cost you the most work (for most trades, emergencies, quote requests and price questions) on a plan you can afford at your call volume. As of October 2026, each service we checked is strongest at something different:

  • You run your jobs in Jobber: Jobber's Receptionist, which books into the schedule you already use.
  • Customers text as often as they ring (US or Canada): Beside or Jobber, which cover texts as well as calls.
  • Bookings outside Google: Upfirst, which lists Outlook, Calendly, Acuity, Square, Clio and more on every plan.
  • A person behind the AI: Smith.ai adds live receptionists per call; at Ruby, people take every call.
  • Long calls from regular customers: Goodcall, which charges per caller, not per minute.
  • Everything run from the van, in the US, UK, Australia or Canada: Juney, set up and run in a phone app, and able to ring you before she answers.

The answering service for trades page plays through four of those calls, from a leaking tank to a service call fee question.

How do the main AI answering services compare for trades in 2026?

Each service suits a different kind of trades business. The “Rings you first?” column distinguishes an app ringing you from your carrier passing on an unanswered call. Prices and other plan features were checked on vendor pages on 22 October 2026; forwarding details were checked on 26 October.

"Not stated" means we didn't find it on the vendor's pages, not that it can't be done. AIRA and Marlie appear in the costs below.

Sources (checked 22 October 2026): Jobber pricing and Receptionist, Beside, Rosie, Goodcall pricing and how it works, Upfirst, AIRA, Dialzara, Marlie, Smith.ai, Ruby.

Can it put an urgent call through to whoever's on call?

Most can, but not always on the entry plan. As of October 2026, AIRA and Upfirst list transfers on every plan, and Beside on both its web plans. Dialzara's $29 plan has blind transfers, with warm ones from $99; Marlie transfers to one number from $99; and Rosie's transfers start on its $149 plan. Jobber's Receptionist puts callers through when they use words you've marked as urgent, and Goodcall retries a busy line.

Juney puts urgent callers through on both plans: she rings the number you set, tells whoever answers who's calling and why, and connects them if they take it. If they don't take it within 20 seconds, she comes back to the caller and takes a message. That number can't be the business line you forward to her, so use a second mobile, a partner's phone or the on-call number. If you work alone with one phone, your chance at an emergency comes from your own phone ringing first, not from the transfer.

What to check: on the trial, describe an emergency in your customers' words, then check the call reached the phone you meant.

Will it book the quote visit, or just take a message?

Booking is where plans differ most, so price the plan that books. As of October 2026, Upfirst books on every plan; Dialzara syncs with Google or Outlook from $99; Marlie books from $99; and Rosie's booking (Google Calendar, Calendly, Acuity, Appointlet) waits for its $149 plan, while its $49 plan texts a booking link. Goodcall books into Google Calendar, and Jobber's Receptionist uses your Jobber booking settings.

Juney books, moves and cancels jobs in Google Calendar on both plans, inside your business hours, or texts your booking link mid-call. Two limits matter to trades: no calendar but Google's, and one booking length for every visit, so a quote visit and a full-day install get the same slot.

What to check: your calendar is supported on the plan you're pricing, and a test booking lands where you look each morning.

What does it say when a caller asks your service call fee?

A well set up AI receptionist says the fee you gave it, then moves on to booking. Every service here works from what you teach it, so ask how easily you can enter your prices and check what it says.

In Juney you add services and fees under Services & pricing. A service with no price gets a "we'll confirm the price" answer. She quotes the prices and answers you've written, and doesn't estimate a repair herself. Can an AI Answering Service Answer Price Questions and Objections? covers each kind of price call, from free quotes to "someone else quoted less".

What to check: ask your fee on the trial call, then ask about a job you price on site. You should hear your number and "we'll confirm that", nothing invented.

Does it cover nights and weekends the way you work?

Every AI service here can answer around the clock; what differs is what happens to a night call. Upfirst lets you choose every call, overflow only (calls your carrier forwards when you do not answer) or after hours, and Ruby's receptionists cover 24/7 with no extra fee for nights (as of October 2026).

With Juney, the Answering schedule setting has three options: she answers every call, only in business hours, or only after hours; outside those times callers get voicemail. On a voicemail call she plays your voicemail greeting, the caller leaves a recorded message, and she can't put that caller through. So if a burst pipe at 2 AM should reach someone, choose an option where Juney answers at night.

Can you set it up and run it from the van?

With a few. As of our 20 October 2026 check, Beside's app is its main home and Rosie has an app alongside its web dashboard. Upfirst, Goodcall, Smith.ai, Dialzara and Marlie are set up in a web dashboard or browser; AIRA's setup runs in its web app (re-checked 22 October). Jobber says you can change Receptionist settings on the web or in its mobile app.

It matters because an AI answering service knows only what its setup gave it. A setup that needs a computer gets pushed to the weekend, then rushed or skipped, and that's how one ends up quoting last year's service call fee.

Juney's setup happens in the app, in order:

  1. Link your website, and Juney learns your services, prices and hours.
  2. Check and correct what she found.
  3. Call her yourself and hear what a customer would hear.
  4. Set what she does for each kind of call: put it through, book it, text a link or take a message.
  5. Forward your calls, with on-screen steps for your carrier.

Every call then comes back as a summary and transcript, so you can spot a wrong answer and fix it in the same app. No computer, no dashboard.

Will your regulars still get you?

Yes, with different setups. As of October 2026, Juney and Beside can ring you in their apps; Ring me first gives you about 15 seconds in Juney. Rosie, Goodcall and Upfirst can receive all forwarded calls; to answer first, use carrier no-answer forwarding. Jobber adds 10 seconds on its side after the carrier's delay. An answering-service carrier guide lists Verizon's wait at about 30 seconds and fixed; Verizon advises turning off Live Voicemail for conditional forwarding.

In Juney's Ringing mode, turn on Ring me first. You get about 15 seconds to answer, and a call you take uses none of your minutes. The ring comes through the Juney app, so you need to be signed in; signed out, she picks up at once. On an install day, choose Straight to Juney so callers don't wait. Can I Still Answer My Own Calls With an AI Answering Service? covers the trade-offs. Personal calls to that number are forwarded too; add family and regular suppliers to Excluded contacts.

What to do: test the route you choose. On carrier no-answer forwarding, declining a call can count as busy and follow a different rule.

What will it cost at a trade's call volume?

Take a busy month: 120 calls averaging 2 minutes (240 minutes) from about 100 different callers, priced on the lowest plan that books and puts callers through (as of October 2026, before tax and carrier charges):

  • Juney: $69 ($49 plus one $20 top-up), less if you take some calls yourself.
  • Goodcall: $79 (100 different callers, no minute meter).
  • AIRA or Upfirst: $89.95 ($59.95 for 90 calls plus 30 calls at $1).
  • Marlie: $99 (500 minutes).
  • Beside: $99 (120 calls is past the $29 plan's 30).
  • Dialzara: $108 ($99 for 220 minutes plus 20 at 45¢).
  • Rosie: $149 (its $49 plan covers the minutes but doesn't book or transfer; going over moves you up a plan).
  • Smith.ai: $262.50 on Pro's 75-call bundle ($150 plus 45 calls at $2.50); the free plan with overages on would be $285.
  • Ruby: past its 200-minute plan ($720); 500 minutes is $1,725.
  • Jobber Receptionist: $29 on top of your Jobber plan; no allowance is listed.

The order moves with your calls. At 5 minutes a call, Juney's bill rises to $149 while Goodcall's stays at $79, and at 30 short calls a month AIRA and Upfirst cost $24.95. Use last month's call log.

Where does Juney fit for a trades business, and where doesn't it?

Juney fits an owner-operator in the trades who wants calls answered from a phone app, jobs booked into Google Calendar, urgent callers put through and the option to take calls first. It doesn't fit if you need customers' texts answered, a calendar other than Google, a language other than English, a live person as backup, or lines outside the US, UK, Australia and Canada.

Juney's price, as of October 2026: $49 a month, or $490 a year paid upfront. Both include 150 minutes a month, which Juney estimates at about 75 calls, and extra minutes come as top-ups of 100 minutes for $20, bought in the app, which don't expire. The 7-day free trial comes with 50 answering minutes. There's no setup fee or contract, and you keep your number by forwarding your calls. Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an AI answering service that books straight into Jobber?

Jobber's own Receptionist does, as a $29 monthly add-on to a Jobber plan (as of October 2026). Juney books into Google Calendar, so a Jobber user would book those jobs into Jobber themselves from the call summary.

Can my crew share one AI answering service?

With some services, yes: Beside includes team access for up to 20 seats, Goodcall adds team members on its larger plans, and Jobber has users. Juney is set up for one owner's phone today, and team accounts are coming soon.

What should I test before I trust it with my customers?

Ring it as a customer would: an emergency in your customers' own words, your service call fee, a quote visit for next week, and a call at night. Then read the summaries and check the booking and the put-through landed where they should.

Should I forward all calls or only missed calls to an answering service?

Forward all calls if you can. With no-answer forwarding, the carrier sets the wait and voicemail or screening may answer before the forwarding happens. Juney asks your carrier to forward all calls; in the Juney app, choose Ring me first to take them before she answers.
