Phonely alternatives: 6 options compared
The usual reasons to look past Phonely are in how it's built and priced: you build and keep up the call flow yourself, its pricing page doesn't add up to one bill, and it's all run in a web dashboard. Each AI receptionist and answering service below fixes at least one of those.
Phonely's Free plan (100 minutes a month) is hard to beat for a handful of calls, so this list is for when you've outgrown it or need transfers. Below, what each costs at 75 two-minute calls a month (October 2026), who each suits, and the catch.
The alternatives at a glance
| Service | Best for | Entry price | At 75 calls | Books and puts calls through at that price? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Juney | Tradespeople who want to set up and run it from a phone | $49 a month for 150 minutes | $49 | Yes |
| Upfirst | Booking into more calendars than Google | $24.95 a month for 30 calls | $59.95 | Yes |
| Dialzara | A low entry price, or porting your number | $29 a month for 60 minutes | $72.20 | Blind transfers; no calendar sync |
| Frontdesk | Calls, texts and a website chatbot in one bundle | $99 a month for 200 minutes | $99 | Yes |
| Beside | An app-first service with texting, in the US or Canada | $29 a month for 30 calls | $99 | Yes |
| Smith.ai | A real person when the AI isn't enough | Free for 25 calls | $150 | Yes |
US dollars a month, from each service's own pricing page (checked October 22, 2026). 75 calls of 2 minutes, on the cheapest plan for that month, before tax and carrier charges.
Why do people look for a Phonely alternative?
Phonely is a builder. Onboarding gives you a starter flow that its docs call "a working starting point, not a finished production agent", and you take it from there in a visual editor: knowledge, guidelines, blocks, tests, then publish. That suits someone who likes setting up systems, or a business with a person to run it. An owner who works from a van may never finish it, and Why Do AI Receptionists Fail? explains why an unfinished setup is where AI answering goes wrong.
The bill is the second trade-off. Its pricing page gives Starter ($50) 200 or 250 minutes and Pro ($150) 650 or 750, depending on where you read, and transferred calls carry $0.02 a minute after the handoff (checked October 22, 2026). The Free plan doesn't put callers through at all. And it's all on the web: we found no Phonely app in either store.
When to stay with Phonely: you take only a few calls (its Free plan), your calls need branching logic or warm transfers with backup numbers, callers speak one of its 50+ languages, or you want outbound campaigns, AI texting and CRM integrations from one agent. None of the six below does all of that.
The 6 alternatives
Juney: best for tradespeople who want to set up and run it from a phone
Instead of a flow to build, setup is guided, in a phone app: she reads your website, you check what she learned, choose what happens for each kind of call and hear her on a test call. One published plan: $49 a month for 150 minutes, with top-ups of 100 minutes for $20; a 75-call month of two-minute calls is $49. Booking and transfers are included, and Ring me first rings you in the Juney app for about 15 seconds before she answers.
The catch: English only, Google Calendar only, no CRM, no replies to texts, no outbound calls, and no free plan (a 7-day trial with 50 minutes).
Upfirst: best for booking into more calendars than Google
Upfirst is set up on the web too, but as a ready-made receptionist with ChatGPT-assisted setup rather than a flow builder. Where Phonely books into Google Calendar through a flow block, Upfirst connects to Google, Outlook, Calendly, Acuity, Square and Clio. Its pricing page gives one set of numbers, billed per call: $24.95 a month for 30 calls. Spam and calls under 15 seconds are left off, and 75 calls cost $59.95. It speaks 35+ languages, can take calls your carrier forwards when you don't answer, and offers a 14-day trial.
The catch: no app found, and no free plan like Phonely's.
Dialzara: best for a low entry price, or porting your number
Dialzara is a web-dashboard AI receptionist that it says takes about 15 minutes to set up. Its entry plan is $29 a month for 60 minutes, with blind transfers but no calendar sync, so 75 two-minute calls come to $72.20. Booking into Google or Outlook, warm transfers and Spanish start on its $99 plan, with 220 minutes. You can take a new number, forward yours, or port it (2 to 4 weeks). Its trial runs 7 days.
The catch: no app on either store, and the features most owners want start at $99.
Frontdesk: best for calls, texts and a website chatbot in one bundle
If Phonely's AI texting and web chat were the draw, Frontdesk (formerly My AI Front Desk) bundles them at one price: $99 a month for 200 minutes, plus 100 chatbot conversations and 400 texts. It has two-way texting, transfers and 20+ languages, and a 7-day trial; its pricing page says no card is needed, while its terms say usage fees apply and a subscription starts automatically afterward. At 75 two-minute calls you'd pay $99.
The catch: bookings go into its own calendar (synced with Google), extra minutes are paid in credits, and it's a web app with no store listing found.
Beside: best for an app-first service with texting, in the US or Canada
Beside is the opposite of Phonely's web builder: it's built around a phone app, with the web optional. It replies to inbound texts, offers voices in up to five languages, and syncs with HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho CRM and Follow Up Boss, plus Zapier, where Phonely's CRM links start on Pro. Pricing is flat: $29 covers 30 AI-answered calls and $99 lifts the cap, so 75 calls are $99. Its app can ring you before the AI answers.
The catch: phone lines in the US and Canada only, and its $29 plan starts billing at once, with no trial.
Smith.ai: best for a real person when the AI isn't enough
Phonely has no receptionists. Smith.ai sells AI, AI-and-human Hybrid and fully human plans, so a caller who needs a person can reach one. Its AI plans bill per call: Free for 25 calls, then Pro bundles from $150 for 75 calls, so 75 calls cost $150. Like Phonely it has a free tier and browser testing (Quality Studio runs simulated calls), and every AI plan adds Spanish and links to Clio, Salesforce and HubSpot.
The catch: no app found, a short call costs the same as a long one, and AI plans need 30 days' notice to cancel.

How do you switch from Phonely?
- Write down what your flow does: the questions it asks, each branch, and every transfer number. Phonely's call history shows which paths callers actually take.
- Check how calls reach Phonely. If your own number forwards to it, you'll just change the forwarding. If customers ring a number Phonely gave you, ask Phonely whether it can forward calls or be ported out before you move.
- Start the new service's trial while Phonely is still answering.
- Set it up and test it with calls of your own: a booking, a price question, an urgent job.
- Move your call forwarding to the new service.
- Cancel Phonely at the end of a billing period: paid plans renew until you cancel, and payments aren't refunded.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free alternative to Phonely?
Smith.ai is the one here with a free plan: 25 calls a month, with a card at signup. The rest have free trials: 14 days at Upfirst, 7 days at Dialzara, Frontdesk and on Beside's $99 plan, and 7 days with 50 minutes at Juney (October 2026). For a handful of calls, Phonely's own Free plan (100 minutes a month) is hard to beat, though it doesn't put callers through.
Which Phonely alternative can I set up without a computer?
Juney and Beside are set up in a phone app. Upfirst, Dialzara, Frontdesk and Smith.ai are set up in a web dashboard, like Phonely.
Which Phonely alternatives speak other languages?
Upfirst lists 35+ languages, Frontdesk 20+, and Beside up to five depending on the voice. Smith.ai answers in English and Spanish, as does Dialzara from its Pro plan. Juney speaks English only. Phonely itself lists 50+.
Can I keep my business number if I leave Phonely?
If your number forwards to Phonely today, yes: you point the forwarding at the new service. With Juney, calls are forwarded from your number and nothing is ported. If customers ring a number Phonely gave you, ask Phonely whether it can forward calls or be ported out first.
