Best AI Answering Service for Contractors in 2026: Book the Site Visit
The best AI answering service for contractors books site visits, states your estimate fee and puts job-site problems through. A dated AI receptionist guide.

TL;DR
- For a builder or remodeler, the best AI answering service books the site visit, states your estimate fee, and puts a problem on an open job through. Each service we checked (October 2026) suits a different contractor.
- Contractor calls run long, so price per-minute and per-call plans at your real call length.
- Already in Jobber? Its $29 Receptionist add-on books into your Jobber schedule. Want a person? Smith.ai or Ruby.
- Juney is $49 a month with 150 minutes, run from a phone app. Limits: calls only, Google Calendar only, English, four countries, no human backup.

A contractor's phone mixes three kinds of caller: a homeowner who wants a kitchen looked at, a client halfway through a six-week remodel, and a sub or supplier who needs an answer before they can do their job. You're on the saw or up on the frame for all three.
Which AI answering service (AI receptionist) is best for a contractor in 2026?
The best one turns a new inquiry into a booked site visit, gets a problem on an open job to you, and keeps sales calls short, on a plan that holds up when calls run five minutes, not two. As of October 2026, each service we checked is strongest at something different:
- You quote, schedule and invoice in Jobber: Jobber's Receptionist books into your Jobber schedule.
- Long calls from the same clients during a job: Goodcall bills per different caller, so a client who rings four times in a month counts once.
- A low call count with long calls: Upfirst and AIRA charge per call, not per minute.
- Bookings outside Google: Upfirst lists Outlook, Square, Calendly, Acuity and Clio on every plan.
- A person behind the AI, or on every call: Smith.ai adds live agents per call; at Ruby, people answer every call.
- An owner-operator who runs the business from the phone, in the US, UK, Australia or Canada: Juney, set up in a phone app and with the Juney app's Ring me first setting.
The AI receptionist for contractors page plays three of those calls with Juney: rain getting into an opened-up kitchen at 7:50 PM, a bathroom remodel walk-through booked for Tuesday, and a deck estimate question.
How do the main AI answering services compare for contractors in 2026?
Each suits a different contracting business, and the last column says which. The second column is the cheapest plan we found that both books and transfers, checked on each vendor's own pages on 22 October 2026; prices are US dollars a month.
| Service | Cheapest plan that books and transfers | How long calls are billed | Books site visits into | Best for a contractor who... |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Juney | $49, 150 minutes | By the minute; past 150, top-ups of $20 per 100 minutes, no expiry; calls you answer yourself use none | Google Calendar, inside your hours | runs the business from the phone and wants the Juney app's Ring me first setting; US, UK, AU or CA |
| Jobber Receptionist | $29 add-on to a Jobber plan | No allowance listed | Your Jobber schedule | already quotes, schedules and invoices in Jobber |
| Goodcall | $79, 100 different callers | Not metered; each different caller counts once a month | Google Calendar | takes repeat calls from clients mid-job |
| Upfirst | $24.95, 30 calls | Per call, whatever its length | Google, Outlook, Square, Clio and more | gets few but long calls, or books outside Google |
| AIRA | $24.95, 30 calls (transfers; booking through Zapier) | Per call, whatever its length | Calendars through Zapier | wants per-call billing and many languages |
| Beside | $29 for 30 AI calls; $99 with no cap | Per AI-answered call; AI calls capped at 10 minutes | "Your calendar" | works in the US or Canada and wants texts answered too |
| Marlie | $99, 500 minutes | By the minute, 35¢ past 500 | Your calendar, from $99 | wants a large minute allowance |
| Dialzara | $99, 220 minutes | By the minute, 45¢ past 220 | Google or Outlook, from $99 | wants English and Spanish on the plan that books |

| Smith.ai | Free for 25 calls; Pro $150 for 75 | Per call | Calendly and more | wants a person to take over the tricky calls |
| Ruby (human) | $250, 50 minutes | By the minute | Scheduling available | wants a person on every call and can pay human rates |
Sources (checked 22 October 2026): Jobber Receptionist and pricing, Goodcall, Upfirst, AIRA, Beside, Marlie, Rosie, Smith.ai, Ruby, Dialzara. Beside's 10-minute cap on AI-handled calls is from our 20 October 2026 check of its help center.
Will it book the site visit, or just take a message?
Booking is where plans differ most, so price the plan that books. As of October 2026, Upfirst books on every plan; Marlie and Dialzara book from $99; Rosie books from $149, while its $49 plan texts a booking link; AIRA connects calendars through Zapier; and Jobber's Receptionist books into Jobber.
Juney books, moves and cancels visits in Google Calendar on both plans, checking your free time first, or texts your booking link mid-call. When she has the caller's email, Google sends them a calendar invite. Two limits matter to a contractor:
- One booking length. A deck estimate and a whole-house remodel walk-through get the same slot, so set it to the visit you do most and adjust the long ones yourself.
- Inside your hours only. A homeowner calling at 8 PM can take a free slot tomorrow when Juney is answering at night; if your Answering schedule sends that call to voicemail, it becomes a message.
What to check: book a test walk-through for next week and make sure it doesn't land on top of a pour or an inspection already in your calendar.
What does it say when a homeowner asks what an estimate costs?
A well set up AI receptionist says what you charge for an estimate visit (or that it's free), says you price the job on site, and offers a time. Nobody should price a remodel over the phone, so the call's job is the visit.
In Juney you add your estimate visit fee and any rates you're happy to share under Services & pricing, and leave remodels, additions and decks without a price. A blank price gets "we'll confirm the price". She doesn't estimate a job herself. The help center explains how to teach Juney your services and prices.
What to check: ask "do you charge for estimates?", then "roughly what does a bathroom cost?". You should hear your fee, then a promise that you'll confirm the second.
Will a problem on an open job reach you?
It will if the service listens for the words your clients and subs use and has a number to put them through to. As of October 2026, Upfirst lists transfers on every plan and Beside on both web plans; Marlie's start at $99 and Rosie's at $149; Jobber puts callers through on keywords you choose, and Goodcall retries a busy line.
Juney does it with an urgent scenario. List the phrases ("rain's coming in where the wall's open", "we can't get on site", "the truck's here with the delivery"), the question to ask (which job is it?), and the number to ring. Juney rings that number first and tells whoever answers who's calling and why. If they take it, she connects the caller and leaves the call; if not, she comes back to the caller and takes a message. The number must differ from the business line you forward to her, so use your lead carpenter's mobile or whoever's running the site.
Everything else gets written up: an invoice question, a touch-up on a finished job, a supplier's rep. Add a scenario for sales calls and she takes their name, company and number, then sends you the message to read after work.
Can your clients mid-job still get you?
If a quote request comes in while you're on site, Juney and Beside can ring you in their apps before the AI answers. Juney's Ring me first gives you about 15 seconds. As of October 2026, Rosie, Goodcall and Upfirst can receive all forwarded calls; to answer first, use carrier no-answer forwarding, which lets the carrier set the wait. Jobber adds 10 seconds on its side after the carrier's delay. An answering-service carrier guide lists Verizon's wait as fixed at about 30 seconds; Verizon advises turning off Live Voicemail for conditional forwarding.
In Juney's Ringing mode, turn on Ring me first. You get about 15 seconds: take the client who's halfway through a remodel, let the unknown number ring, and Juney answers. Calls you take yourself use none of your minutes, which matters when a client's call runs ten minutes. The ring comes through the Juney app, so stay signed in; signed out, she answers straight away. Can I Still Answer My Own Calls With an AI Answering Service? covers the trade-offs.
Can you set it up and change it from the job site?
With a few. When we checked on 20 October 2026, Beside was built around its app and Rosie paired an app with its web dashboard. Upfirst, Goodcall, Smith.ai, Dialzara and Marlie are set up in a browser or web dashboard, as is AIRA. Jobber says Receptionist settings work on the web or in its mobile app.
Juney's setup runs in the app. Link your website so she learns your services, estimate fee and hours, and correct what she got wrong. Then call her yourself as a homeowner with a kitchen to open up, set your scenarios (site visits booked, open-job problems put through, sales calls written up), and forward your calls with the steps for your carrier on screen. Every call comes back as a summary and transcript, so you can fix a wrong answer from the cab of the truck.
What will it cost at a contractor's call volume?
Take a typical month: 60 calls averaging 5 minutes (300 minutes) from about 45 different callers, because clients on a long job ring more than once. Priced on the lowest plan that books and puts callers through (as of October 2026, before tax and carrier charges):
- Upfirst: $59.95 (90 calls; call length doesn't count).
- Goodcall: $79 (45 different callers, inside the 100).
- Juney: $89 ($49 plus two $20 top-ups), less for each client call you take yourself.
- Beside or Marlie: $99 (Beside's unlimited plan; Marlie's 500 minutes).
- Smith.ai: $105 on the free plan with overages on (35 calls at $3); Pro is $150 for 75 calls.
- Dialzara: $135 ($99 for 220 minutes plus 80 at 45¢).
- Rosie: $149 (1,000 minutes).
- Ruby: $1,725 (300 minutes is past its 200-minute plan).
- Jobber Receptionist: $29 on top of your Jobber plan, with no allowance listed.
AIRA's per-call plans cost the same as Upfirst's, but it books only through Zapier, so it's left out of the list. At 30 calls of 5 minutes, Smith.ai's free plan is $15, Upfirst $24.95, Beside $29 and Juney $49, while Goodcall stays at $79 and Marlie and Dialzara at $99. Long calls favor per-call and per-caller plans; check your call log for the average length before you choose.
Where does Juney fit for a contracting business, and where doesn't it?
Juney fits an owner-operator builder, remodeler or carpenter who wants calls answered from a phone app: site visits booked into Google Calendar, open-job problems put through, sales calls kept short, your estimate fee stated as you set it, and the Juney app ringing you with Ring me first when a client calls. It doesn't fit if your jobs must land in Jobber or other job software, clients text you as much as they call, you need another calendar or language, you want a live person as backup, or your crew needs to share the line (team accounts are coming soon). It works with business numbers in the US, UK, Australia and Canada.
As of October 2026, Juney costs $49 a month or $490 a year paid upfront, with 150 minutes a month on either plan (about 75 calls, by Juney's estimate; fewer if your calls run long), then top-ups of 100 minutes for $20, bought in the app, which don't expire. The 7-day free trial comes with 50 answering minutes, with no setup fee or contract, and you keep your number by forwarding it. Juney is built by Trillet, the voice AI platform trusted by over 4,000 businesses. See Juney's plans and free trial.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Juney keep supplier and sales calls from interrupting me?
Yes. Add a scenario for salespeople and suppliers: Juney thanks them, takes their name, company and number, and sends you the message instead of putting them through. A number that keeps calling can go on your blocked list, which Juney never answers.
Can Juney tell a client how their job is going?
No. Juney can check availability and book, move or cancel appointments in Google Calendar, but she doesn't know where a job stands. A client asking about progress can be put through to you or written up for a callback, whichever you set in the scenario.
Can Juney put a sub who's locked out of the site through to my foreman?
Yes. Add phrases like "we can't get on site" to an urgent scenario and choose your foreman's number. It must be a different number from the business line you forward to Juney. She tells your foreman who's calling and why before connecting them, and takes a message if they can't take it.
