Best AI Answering Service for Plumbers in 2026: What to Compare
The best AI answering service for plumbers puts burst pipes through, quotes your service call fee and books visits. A dated AI receptionist comparison for 2026.

TL;DR
- For a plumber, the best AI answering service puts a burst pipe through at night, quotes your service call fee and books the visit. Each one we checked (October 2026) suits a different plumber.
- Price the plan that books and transfers: Rosie's starts at $149, Marlie's and Dialzara's at $99.
- On Jobber or Housecall Pro? Their own receptionists book into your schedule. Want a person? Smith.ai or Ruby.
- Juney is $49 a month for 150 minutes (as of October 2026), run from a phone app. Limits: calls, not texts; Google Calendar; English; four countries; no human backup.

A plumber's phone rings hardest when water is on the floor: a split supply line at dinner time, a basement drain backing up on a Sunday. The rest of the week brings price checks and water heater quotes, usually while your hands are wet.
Which AI answering service (AI receptionist) is best for a plumber in 2026?
The best one gets the burst pipe to a person, quotes the fees you've set and books the visit, on a plan that still fits in a cold snap. As of October 2026, each service we checked wins at something different:
- Your jobs live in Jobber: Jobber's $29 Receptionist add-on listens for words you choose, such as "burst pipe", and books into your Jobber schedule.
- Your jobs live in Housecall Pro: its CSR AI is built in and books from your Housecall Pro schedule. Its price isn't on Housecall Pro's pricing page.
- A person for the panicking caller: Smith.ai adds live agents to its AI per call; at Ruby, people answer every call.
- A calendar other than Google: Upfirst lists Outlook, Square, Calendly, Acuity and Clio on every plan.
- Long calls from property managers and regulars: Goodcall charges per caller, not per minute.
- An owner-operator who runs everything from the phone, in the US, UK, Australia or Canada: Juney. You set her up in a phone app, and Ring me first rings you in the Juney app before she picks up.
Our plumbing answering service page plays two everyday plumbing calls: a water heater quote booked for Friday and a blocked-drain caller asking what you charge to come out.
How do the main AI answering services compare for plumbers in 2026?
The last column says which kind of plumbing business each one suits. The second column is the cheapest plan we found listing both booking and transfers, checked on each vendor's own pages on 22 October 2026.
| Service | Cheapest plan that books and transfers | How a burst pipe reaches you | Books into | Best for a plumber who... |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Juney | $49, 150 minutes | Phrases you list; warm transfer to a second number (she introduces the caller first) | Google Calendar, inside your hours | works from the van, sets up on the phone, wants Ring me first in the Juney app; US, UK, AU or CA |
| Jobber Receptionist | $29 add-on to a Jobber plan | Keywords you pick, like "burst pipe": put through or a text alert | Your Jobber schedule | already quotes, schedules and invoices in Jobber |
| Housecall Pro CSR AI | Not listed on its pricing page | A caller who asks for a person goes to a number you choose; escalation rules you set | Your Housecall Pro schedule | already runs jobs and services in Housecall Pro |
| Beside | $29 for 30 AI calls; $99 with no cap | Transfers on both web plans | "Your calendar" | works in the US or Canada and wants texts answered too |
| Rosie | $149, 1,000 minutes | Warm and live transfers from $149 | Google, Calendly, Acuity or Appointlet, from $149 | can live with booking links by text on the $49 plan's 250 minutes |
| Goodcall | $79, 100 different callers | Transfers; a busy line gets another try | Google Calendar | gets long calls from the same customers |
| Upfirst | $24.95, 30 calls | Transfers on every plan | Google, Outlook, Square, Clio and more | books outside Google, or gets callers in many languages |
| Dialzara | $99, 220 minutes | Blind transfers from $29; warm from $99 | Google or Outlook, from $99 | wants English and Spanish (from $99) |
| Smith.ai | Free for 25 calls; Pro $150 for 75 | Warm transfers; live agents per call | Calendly and more | wants a live person to take over the hard calls |
| Ruby (human) | $250, 50 minutes | Call handling options you agree with Ruby | Scheduling available | wants a person on every call and can pay human rates |
AIRA and Marlie appear in the costs below. We didn't check ServiceTitan.
Vendor pages behind the table and the costs below, all checked 22 October 2026: Jobber Receptionist, Jobber pricing, Housecall Pro CSR AI, Housecall Pro pricing, Beside, Rosie, Goodcall (and its how it works page), Upfirst, Dialzara, Smith.ai, Ruby, AIRA and Marlie.
Will a burst pipe at 2 AM reach a person?
With most of these services it can, if transfers are on the plan you buy and the service is answering at night. As of October 2026, Upfirst and AIRA list transfers on every plan and Beside on both web plans. Dialzara's $29 plan has blind transfers, Marlie transfers to one number from $99, and Rosie's transfers start at $149. Jobber's own example of an urgent keyword is a burst pipe.
Juney puts urgent callers through on both plans. You list the words callers use ("the pipe under the sink split", "the basement drain is backing up", "there's water all over the garage floor"), the questions to ask first, and the number to ring. She rings that number first and tells whoever answers who's calling and why. If they take it, she connects them and leaves the call; if not, she comes back to the caller and takes a message. That number has to differ from the business line you forward to her, so give her the on-call mobile rather than your own line.
The catch is the Answering schedule setting. Set nights to voicemail and Juney answers with your voicemail greeting, the caller leaves a recorded message, and she can't transfer anyone. For night emergencies, choose Juney, always or Juney after hours only. After-Hours Calls for Plumbers: Who Answers the 9 PM Burst Pipe? sorts a plumber's night calls into the ones that should wake you and the ones that can wait.
What to check: on the trial, ring your business number from another phone after hours, say "water's coming through the kitchen ceiling", and see which phone rings.
What does it say when a caller asks your service call fee or a water heater price?
A well set up AI receptionist quotes the fee you gave it, says you'll confirm the jobs you price on site, and offers the visit. Every service here answers from what you teach it, though Housecall Pro says its CSR AI starts from the services already in your account.
In Juney you add each service under Services & pricing. A plumber's list might read: service call or diagnostic fee (your price), drain clearing (if you charge a flat rate), after-hours rate (your night price), and water heater replacement with the price left blank. A blank price gets "we'll confirm the price". She doesn't estimate a job herself, and on a voicemail call she quotes nothing. The help center shows how to teach Juney your services and prices.
What to check: ask your service call fee, your after-hours rate, then "how much for a new 50-gallon water heater?". You should hear your two numbers, then a promise to confirm the third.
Will it book service visits and estimates, or just take a message?
Most can, but often only on a higher plan. As of October 2026, Upfirst books on every plan; Marlie and Dialzara book from $99; Rosie books from $149, and its $49 plan texts a booking link instead. Jobber's and Housecall Pro's receptionists book into the job software you already run.
Juney books, moves and cancels visits in Google Calendar on both plans, or texts your booking link while the caller is on the line. Three limits matter to a plumber:
- Google Calendar only. Jobs kept in field service software need a booking link or a callback.
- One booking length. A drain call and a repipe estimate get the same slot, so set it for your usual visit.
- Bookings inside your hours. She offers only times inside your hours, so the 10 PM no-hot-water caller can take tomorrow's first free slot when she's answering at night. If your Answering schedule sends night calls to voicemail, it becomes a message instead.
What to check: book a test visit for next week and make sure it lands in the calendar you look at each morning.
Can you set it up and fix it from your phone?
With a few of them. When we checked on 20 October 2026, Beside was built around its app, and Rosie paired an app with its web dashboard. Upfirst, Goodcall, Smith.ai, Dialzara and Marlie run their setup from a browser or web dashboard, as AIRA does (re-checked 22 October). Jobber says Receptionist settings can be changed on the web or in its mobile app; Housecall Pro describes a dashboard for CSR AI's hours, scripts and escalation rules.
It matters because a plumber's details change: the service call fee goes up in January, or you stop fitting a brand of water heater. If fixing that needs a laptop, the old answer stays on the phone for weeks.
Juney's setup runs in the app:
- Link your website so Juney picks up your services, prices and hours, then correct anything she got wrong.
- Ring her yourself and play the customer: a leaking water heater, a fee question, a drain visit for Thursday.
- Add your scenarios: burst pipes put through, quotes booked, everything else taken as a message.
- Forward your calls, following the steps the app shows for your carrier.
Each call then arrives as a summary and transcript, so a wrong answer gets fixed in the same app, between jobs.
Can you still answer your own calls first?
When a homeowner calls while you're under a sink, Juney and Beside can ring you in their apps before the AI answers. Juney's Ring me first gives you about 15 seconds. As of October 2026, Rosie, Goodcall and Upfirst can receive all forwarded calls; to answer first, use carrier no-answer forwarding, which lets the carrier set the wait. Jobber adds 10 seconds on its side after the carrier's delay. An answering-service carrier guide lists Verizon's wait as fixed at about 30 seconds; Verizon advises turning off Live Voicemail for conditional forwarding.
With Juney, turn on Ring me first in Ringing mode. You get about 15 seconds: take it at the supplier's counter, ignore it under a sink, and Juney answers. Calls you take yourself use none of your minutes. That ring needs you signed in to the app; if you've logged out, Juney picks up straight away. At night, choose Straight to Juney so a caller with a flooded basement isn't waiting on a phone you won't hear.
What will it cost at a plumber's call volume?
Take a busy month: 150 calls averaging 3 minutes (450 minutes) from about 130 different callers, on each service's cheapest plan with booking and transfers. Prices are as of October 2026, without tax or carrier charges:
- Beside: $99 (150 calls is past the $29 plan's 30).
- Marlie: $99 (500 minutes).
- Goodcall: $102.70 ($79 plus 30 extra callers at 79¢).
- Juney: $109 ($49 plus three $20 top-ups), and less if you answer some calls yourself.
- AIRA or Upfirst: $119.95 ($59.95 for 90 calls plus 60 calls at $1).
- Rosie: $149 (1,000 minutes).
- Dialzara: $199 for 500 minutes, less than its $99 plan plus overage ($202.50).
- Smith.ai: $270 on Pro's 150-call bundle, the cheapest plan that books and transfers (the free plan with overages on would be $375).
- Ruby: $1,725 for 500 minutes.
- Jobber Receptionist: $29 on top of your Jobber plan, with no allowance listed.
For many plumbers, calls swing with the weather, and the order moves with them. In a quiet summer month of 60 calls at 3 minutes, AIRA or Upfirst is $59.95 and Juney $69. In a hard freeze that doubles calls to 300 (900 minutes from about 260 callers), Juney rises to $209, and Beside ($99), Goodcall ($129), Rosie ($149), AIRA and Upfirst ($159.95) and Marlie ($199) all cost less. Price last winter's busiest month, not an average one.
Where does Juney fit for a plumbing business, and where doesn't it?
Juney fits an owner-operator plumber who wants calls answered from a phone app, visits booked into Google Calendar, burst pipes put through and the option to answer first. It's the wrong pick if customers text you as much as they call, your jobs must land in field service software, your callers need Spanish or another language, you want a staffed backup, or your line is outside the US, UK, Australia and Canada.
As of October 2026, Juney costs $49 monthly or $490 for a year upfront, with 150 minutes a month on either plan (about 75 calls, by Juney's estimate), then top-ups of 100 minutes for $20, bought in the app, which don't expire. You start with a 7-day free trial and 50 answering minutes. There's no setup fee and no contract, and customers keep ringing your number because you forward it. Juney is built by Trillet, the voice AI platform trusted by over 4,000 businesses. Plans and the trial are on Juney's pricing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a caller with a burst pipe have to wait while my phone rings first?
Yes, for about 15 seconds, if you've chosen Ring me first in Ringing mode. When you know you can't answer, such as overnight or on a long job, switch to Straight to Juney so she answers at once and your emergency scenario puts the caller through.
Can Juney tell a caller which water heater brands I install?
Yes, if you add it under Services & pricing or FAQs. She says what you've written and nothing more, so a brand you haven't listed gets "I'll have them confirm that" and the caller's details come to you.
Does Juney know which towns or suburbs I cover?
She does if you tell her. Add your service area under FAQs and she answers "Do you come out to…?" from it. A caller outside your area hears what you wrote, and their details still reach you.
